National Webinar - A Psychological Perspective to Help Employees Manage Chronic Pain

March 28, 2019 1:00 PM to 2:00 PMOnline - Eastern Time Zone
Area of Interest: Benefits Format: Web

One in every five Canadians suffers from some form of chronic pain, a condition that often — though not always —starts with an injury or illness and lasts more than three months or beyond the normal recovery period. There’s mounting evidence that once tissue or bones are fully healed in the body there’s no longer a physiological explanation for pain, which means that any persistent pain is largely a psychological issue and should be treated as such.

In this webinar, Kenneth MacDonald, Manager, SMB, Western Canada at Morneau Shepell will use his own personal journey with chronic pain to illustrate:

  • That negative thoughts and emotions can create and exacerbate pain and other physiological symptoms in the body
  • It’s possible to reduce chronic pain and even fully recover by looking beyond traditional physical therapies and prescription drugs, and taking a psychological approach
  • Tools and resources available to employers to help both active and disabled employees manage chronic pain
