In 1960, the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute (CPBI) was established as the Canadian Pension Conference. The 1960s proved to be a very exciting time for the development of government pension programs such as the Canada Pension Plan and provincial pension minimum standards legislation. The purpose of CPBI, then as it is now, was to discuss questions relating to all forms of income security for old age and other allied programs and to advance and exchange ideas and information in this field.

Fast forward 55 years, after several years of significant pension reforms affecting workplace pension plans, the Ontario government is proposing to introduce a new government pension plan for Ontarians – the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan. CPBI was at the forefront of the discussion when Canada Pension Plan was introduced and we are leading the discussion regarding the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan.
