The CPBI Pacific Region invites you to join us for our popular annual Legal Update. This year, the focus will be on BC's new Pension Benefits Standard Act and Regulations. Come join us to learn about the latest developments and to network with your fellow peers.

Scott Sweatman will provide an overview of key issues plan sponsors and consultants should be aware of in planning for and complying with BC’s new PBSA and Regulations.  Scott will also provide an update on recent pensions and benefits case law.

Scott Sweatman is a partner at Dentons Canada LLP. Since 1990, Scott has focused his practice on pensions, benefits, executive compensation and related tax and trust law. For over fifteen years he worked as a senior consultant with two major multi-national actuarial and accounting firms.

In 2007 and 2008 Scott was Co-Chair of the Alberta-British Columbia Joint Expert Panel on Pension Standards working with five of Alberta and BC’s leading experts in pensions to review pension legislation in the two provinces and make recommendations to both governments for fundamental reforms to pension legislation.

Scott is past national and regional Chair of the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute and is on the Board of Directors of NAV Canada, Canada’s national private sector civil navigation services provider. He also serves as Chair of NAV’s Pension Committee which has pension plan assets in excess of $5 billion. 

Scott is recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of Employee Benefits Law (2011-2016)and is recommended by TheCanadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Pensions and Employee Benefits (2012-2015). He is also recognized by Chambers Global asaleading lawyer in the area of Pensions and Benefits (2013–2015).  He has been practising law since 1987.
