Session description

This session will provide an overview of general underwriting principles, including risk selection, funding methodology, and rate setting. By attending this session, participants will gain a basic understanding of how group insurers manage risk, the implications of the different funding options that are available, and the key factors that determine the cost of a group benefit program.

This session will provide particularly useful information for all those who work in the benefits industry.

Karen has worked in the Group Insurance industry for over 30 years, and has held her current role as Account Executive with Manulife Financial since 1995. She is responsible for managing a large book of major accounts in British Columbia. Karen holds two industry designations – FLMI (Fellow Life Management Institute) and CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist). She is a Past Chair and current Treasurer for the Pacific Regional Council of the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute (CPBI), and  was recognized as the CPBI Volunteer of the Year for the Pacific Region in 2011.

Registration Fees

This session is FREE to all CPBI members. It is FREE for non-CPBI members attending a Roundtable session for the first time.

Non-members attending for the first-time should use coupon: PC-NMFIRST. Non-members who have attended previous sessions will be asked to pay a registration fee of $20.
