The key role of the Employment Pensions branch is to monitor and enhance the retirement benefits of Albertans who are covered under the Employment Pension Plans Act (EPPA). This is achieved by ongoing monitoring of private sector pension plans registered under the EPPA to ensure that the plan is in compliance with the act, assessing and correcting those pension plans where the documentation and administrative practices do not conform to legislative requirements, and working with stakeholders to ensure the ongoing viability of their plans.

If your answer is YES, then we have an exciting and challenging opportunity for you as a Senior Manager, Risk Management!

Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent of Pensions, you will fill a key role in the oversight of a fair and balanced regulatory environment that supports the development and maintenance of strong and stable pension plans. You will have overall responsibility for directing the key elements of our pension plan regulatory program which includes the monitoring and assessment of over 700 Registered Pension Plans, managing the branch's Risk Management Strategy (RMS) and Pension Plan Intervention Program (PPIP), and leading and mentoring a professional team of Compliance Officers.

Ideally, your background includes extensive related pension management experience with in-depth knowledge of the pension industry, legislation, and the influencing business and economic factors. Your understanding of pension plan design, financing, and governance, in addition to actuarial and audit theories and principles will benefit you in this position. As a leader, you have demonstrated sound judgment in managing complex issues and business challenges using exceptional communication, interpersonal and resource management skills.

To be successful in this role you must:

be a results-oriented individual capable of providing leadership and guidance to a small team of technical staff;
have experience in coaching, mentoring and team-building with a commitment to foster a positive work environment that enables staff to achieve results and builds organizational capacity for the future;
have strong written and verbal communication skills and be capable working with senior government officials as well as executive management of the regulated entities; and
be able to critically analyze and understand complex legislation, as well as financial and contractual documents.

Salary: $4,037.95 - $5,127.61 Bi-weekly ($105,390 - $133,830 Annually). Closing Date: August 20, 2018. Job ID #1050081

Qualifications: A University degree in business or a related field such as mathematics, economics, finance, business administration, law supplemented by a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in pension administration or pension consulting, actuarial or regulatory compliance role. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. A professional designation as an actuary along with associated actuarial practice is considered an asset. Formal training and certification in pensions will be considered an asset.
