With a mandate to provide world class services for our customers and our environment, Halifax Water is Canada’s first regulated water, wastewater and stormwater utility serving a population of about 365,000 in Halifax Regional Municipality. 

Halifax Water is seeking a Term Compensation and Benefits Specialist, for a period of approximately 18 months, to join the Corporate Services Department. Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the Compensation and Benefits Specialist is responsible for the overall administration of all compensation and benefits related functions, including Group Insurance Plans, other Group Benefits, Long Term Disability applications, pension and payroll applications; ensuring consistency in application. Maintaining the HRIS systems and ensuring data integrity and confidentiality. You are responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with employees at all levels, and communicating and delivering various HR programs and initiatives to the business. You will provide a variety of human resource generalist functions as may be required.

As a Compensation and Benefits Specialist, you bring a minimum of two years previous related work experience in a unionized work environment (preferably within a municipal or regional government setting). You are proficient with Microsoft Excel and your experience with SAP HRIS would be considered an asset. Combined with a university degree in a related field and ideally holding a CPM designation from Canadian Payroll Association. As part of the selection process, applicants meeting minimum qualifications for the position may be required to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities for the position through a set of practical applications.
