Description:

The purpose of this job is to lead the Mercer H&B business in our Winnipeg office, with responsibility for the local financial performance, people issues, client issues and all processes in accordance with the H&B business plan with a view to continue to successfully grow Mercer’s H&B presence, brand and revenue in the broader Manitoba market.

The responsibilities of this position also include:

  • Working in close partnership with other office business leaders and market leaders, contributing to the achievement of national business and cross line-of-business strategic goals
  • Being part of the Winnipeg cross-LOB growth team
  • Help drive the innovation agenda and/or contribute to different national and North American H&B committees
  • Developing business plans for clients and marketing to prospects
  • Managing and growing a personal client portfolio

Business Strategy:

  • Develops a local strategy for the market taking into account national H&B strategic objectives and local demands
  • Contributes, at a national level, to the development and implementation of new H&B processes and innovation initiatives
  • Contribute to H&B and cross line-of-business innovation agenda and pipeline
  • Defines and implements long-term business strategy at the local market level in alignment with national and global LOB strategy
  • Speaks at industry association meetings and networking events to promote Mercer’s capabilities and his/her personal brand as a subject matter expert
  • Holds staff accountable, engaging staff to deliver financial and other business results, drives engagement by frequent communication and dialogue
  • Implements global and regional business strategy at the market level

Clients:

  • Drives the identification and winning of new business and retention/expansion of existing client work in his/her local market to increase revenue and achieve growth goals
  • Leads strategic discussions with prospects and clients to close sales, resolve conflicts and retain business in the local market
  • Manages and delivers a personal client portfolio with accountability for individual revenue growth targets and individual financial metrics
  • Partners with other local LOB leaders to support cross-LOB growth initiatives and achieve local market goals
  • Drives the Client Experience Measurement process in the local market, ensuring that client satisfaction is achieved and service levels are improved where necessary

Financial:

  • In cooperation with the Prairie Growth Leader, actively manages financial aspects of the local market, contributing to the financial success of the business overall
  • Manages Winnipeg market resources to comply with and deliver against set budgets, ensuring that work is priced appropriately and that project teams are appropriately leveraged
  • Actively manages people resources to support achievement of the Winnipeg and Prairie offices, and National Business plans
  • Acts as a role model and leader to the unit, delivering and supporting the Winnipeg office and National Business plans
  • Ensures compliance with all critical processes at both an individual and local level to minimize the market's financial exposure/risk

People:

  • Staff Management and Development – supervises direct reports, and has indirect supervision of all H&B staff in the Winnipeg office.
  • Has responsibility for people management including:
  • Assigning, directing, and evaluating work
  • Workforce planning and staffing to meet business needs
  • Performance counseling and employee terminations, as may be necessary from time to time
  • Conducting performance evaluations and career development discussions
  • Overseeing salary, bonus and promotion recommendations for all staff in sub-market
  • Identification and development of future leaders in the sub-market
Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree required; Advanced degree/professional credentials preferred
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant industry experience
  • At least 10 years of experience within a consulting environment
  • Specialized knowledge of all H&B related products and services
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and guide H&B consultants, and consultants from other lines of business, on all H&B product and service offerings
  • Demonstrated ability to translate H&B solutions and services into strategies for clients
  • Advanced business and financial acumen
  • Advanced conflict management and problem resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and grow talent effectively
  • Renowned in local market as an expert in field
