The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of BC (ICBA) is the voice of B.C.’s construction industry and the oldest open shop organization in Canada. ICBA is the single largest sponsor of construction apprentices in BC and owns ICBA Benefits Services Ltd. (BSL), which is one of the largest providers of group health and retirement benefits in British Columbia. Representing more than 2,000 companies and clients, ICBA members and their skilled workers are involved in virtually all major capital and infrastructure projects built in British Columbia.

With a combined staff of approximately 40, ICBA and BSL offer a wide range of member services including public policy research and advocacy, group health and retirement benefit programs, training and apprenticeship programs, and conferences and forums. The head office of the ICBA and BSL is in Burnaby and they have regional offices in Prince George and Fort St. John.

The Opportunity:

Our Burnaby head office has an opening for a mid to senior level benefits administrator with both professionalism and a high standard of customer service. You will be responding to inquiries and problem resolutions on a daily basis. In addition, your duties will include providing information regarding the termination of benefits, processing claims, and providing instructions to clients on how to fill out paperwork. 25-40% of this job is spent on the phone, with the remaining portion of your day being spent completing administrative duties.


•Answer incoming benefit plan calls and emails

•Process changes, enrolments, and terminations etc. for your benefit block

•Prepare and remit monthly reports to insurers / process insurance commission payments

•Establish and maintain relationships with insurance providers

•Establish, maintain relationships, and provide support for Agent network

•Maintain files of benefits plan history, benefits data, correspondence, reports, and forms

•Submit and follow up on medical underwriting applications and disability claims

•Train and mentor Administrative Assistants, as well as distribute work-load

Additional Comments:

Hours: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm or 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday

Annual salary: Compensation based on experience.

Required experience:

•Previous benefits administration experience required**

•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, and other employees in a timely manner

•Strong communication skills, multi-tasking and attention to detail

•Highly professional and confidential individual with the ability to meet time sensitive deadlines

•Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to master new software quickly

•Friendly, professional and polite with experience in customer service.

•Experience with data entry

•Interpersonal skills: team player, tactful, sensitive, flexible, works well with others
