In this newly developed multi-dimensional role, the Director of Benefits & Administration will serve on the Executive Management team and will report to the CEO.  Working closely with this group to develop your understanding of our complex organizational needs, you will quickly step into the role as leader and strategic advisor for HEB Manitoba’s group benefit plans providing subject matter expertise on benefits and administration leading practices and policies.  Accountabilities will include:  leading the strategic direction for the administration of the group benefit plans (Healthcare; Dental; Healthcare Spending Account; Group & Retiree Life Insurance Plans); along with the delivery of employer services and member records administration across the organization. You will mentor and develop your department management team who are responsible for the day to day operations of the administration of these benefits plans.

Setting a new course for HEB Manitoba’s Benefits & Administration functions, you will lead change management initiatives as the scope of the department evolves with the implementation of enhanced efficiencies increasing our efficacy in meeting the needs of our stakeholders and members. As the Director, your comprehension of the big picture and vision will be instrumental in the development, implementation and eventual execution of our back office systems. 


Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in the benefits industry with 7+ years’ experience in a leadership role: managing all aspects of benefits plan administration including plan design, cost containment; plan communications and developing direct reports.
  • Hands on leadership of a diverse technical operations team that works closely with external stakeholders and partners to ensure seamless integration of processes and data.
  • Your depth of benefits industry knowledge is extensive, enabling you to proactively monitor and effectively communicate the effect of emerging trends and market transitions.
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration or a related field along with the CEBS designation. Post-graduate studies could be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of key principles of change management and having served in a lead role with change initiatives, the ability to positively adapt to shifting opportunities and priorities is second nature for you.
  • Experience with the preparation and presentation of key reports to a Board of Trustees/Directors would be considered an asset.

  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and develop strong key relationships comes with ease.
  • Business acumen is a definite strength with demonstrated ability to influence and collaboratively partner with all levels along with a proven track record for managing complex negotiations.
  • Superior business communications skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Proven ability to understand the big picture and translate strategic initiatives into tactical action plans.
  • Skilled at quickly assimilating information and applying advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively address challenges.
  • Adept at establishing a culture of continuous professional development and motivating direct reports and their staff to take accountability for their teams’ work
