Description of the job:

The Disability Management Coordinator will facilitate the return to work of ill or injured employees in collaboration with Management, Occupational Health Nurse (OHN), and applicable stakeholders while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and Company Policies for both short term disability and long term disability providers. As an integral member of the Total Rewards team, the Disability Management Coordinator employs the principles of disability management to actively manage and ensure all ill and injured employees are provided with appropriate case management to affect an early, timely and safe return to the workplace.

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Access, review and adjudicate routine short-term disability claims in regards to the functional health and wellness of employees by gathering relevant information and medical documentation in conjunction with the OHN.
  • Coordinate an appropriate return-to-work (RTW) plan with the employee and the employer; provide active support for the RTW planning process between stakeholders under the direction of the Occupational Health Nurse.
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate organizational health and wellness education to employees.
  • Maintain confidential medical records and record retention requirements on an annual basis.
  • Provide periodic reports on claims including analysis and root cause determination.
  • Coordinate mental and physical health accommodations for employees
  • Actively participate in the implementation of disability management information system
  • Manage the transition from STD to LTD when applicable.
  • Promote awareness of disability management program and stay current with disability and wellness practices.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Formal education in disability management, University degree or equivalent in related field e.g. Post- Secondary Education Diploma with Certificate in Disability Claims Management, Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Return to Work Coordinator(CRTWC),is an asset
  • Minimum of 3 -5 years’ of work experience in disability management, return to work programs, claims management preferred
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential information
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership, interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service experience with the ability to build and manage relationships both internal and external
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced team environment, under pressure to meet deadlines with demonstrated attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation and disability management best practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to effectively manage the safe and timely return to work of injured or ill employees
  • Well-developed computer skills required in Word, Excel, Outlook, and HRIS systems

Additional requirements/information for candidates:

  • This position is a permanent part time position (24 – 32 hours per week); shorter hours/day but 5 days/week OR regular hours for 3-4 days per week. Schedule will be confirmed and negotiated with the successful candidate to meet the needs of the Alberta Energy Regulator.
