Michel and Brenda will share the retirement plan communication strategies for two of their shared clients. One established a brand new plan for their employees and the other undertook a detailed marketing and carrier search. Using a case study approach they will share how the same communication materials and strategies were positioned with each client yet deployed differently. How did it turn out? Join us to hear of the successes, challenges and lessons learned from all perspectives – insurer, consultant, employer and employee.

Brenda joined Belay Advisory 11 years ago. In her lead role as employee retirement plan consultant she brings expertise, creativity and customized service experience to the employers who engage Belay Advisory, and the employees who benefit from having an employee retirement plan. 

With over 20 years’ experience she is well respected within the consulting and insurance industries. Prior to joining Belay Advisory, Brenda’s experience was gained at 3 large insurance companies. She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta, holds the Retirement Planning Associate designation and regularly participates in industry-affiliated educational opportunities in Canada and the United States.

Brenda and her family moved to Calgary from Edmonton 6 years ago. She is originally from Fort McMurray, Alberta. Outside of work her focus is spending time in Calgary’s mountain backyard with her husband and son, and daughter when she’s on University breaks.



 
 

Michel Cantin

Regional Sales Director, Western Canada

iA Financial Group


Michel is the Regional Sales Director for Western Canada at iA Financial Group. In this role, he works with plan advisors to provide innovative, tailored and cost-effective solutions to plan sponsors and their members. 

He joined iA in 2010 after 10 years at Morneau Shepell in both the Calgary and Quebec City offices. His consulting experience working with small and large Capital Accumulation Plans and Defined Benefit plans as a pension and investment consultant allows him to understand the unique perspectives of all stakeholders.

 

Michel has also been a director of Connect First Credit Union since 2010. He is currently the Chair of the Risk Committee and has served on all five board committees.

 

Michel obtained the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation in 2008 and graduated from Laval University in 2000 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science.

 

Originally from Quebec City, Michel has been living in Calgary for over 12 years. He is the proud father of three daughters aged 12, 6 and 4. In his rare spare time, he likes to golf, spend time in the great outdoors and travel.
