The Role

As a Senior Health and Benefits Analyst you will contribute to a wide variety of complex projects involving the design, financing, delivery, ongoing management and communication of the full spectrum of health and benefit programs including medical, dental, life, disability, time off and flexible benefits.  You will serve as the #2 Project Manager on large projects, interface with vendors and key clients internally and externally, create client deliverables, and ensure quality standards are met.  You will have the opportunity to significantly grow your project management and client facing skills as well as your health and welfare business acumen by working on cutting edge projects alongside leaders in the industry.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Partner with Consultants to deliver superior project management on select clients:
    • Draft statements of work, project plans and budgets involving multiple workflow streams and client teams
    • Develop relationships with client contacts and raise appropriate issues to Senior Consultants and Client Relationship Managers
    • Monitor progress to deadlines and budget
  • Perform financial analyses including developing pricing and employee contributions strategies, modelling plan design alternatives and calculating reserves
  • Conduct benchmarking studies and other research; provide value added analyses and summaries
  • Analyze and compare vendor products, services and contracts
  • Design, distribute and evaluate responses to surveys and RFPs
  • Contribute to projects within the Specialty area including health management/wellness, disability/absence management, pharmacy and claims audits
  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Review analytical work, mentor and develop junior level staff
Requirements:

The Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience dealing with the financials of health and welfare plans, ideally gained in a benefit consulting/brokerage firm or health underwriting / actuarial function of an insurance company; additional experience with life/disability plans desired
  • Proven experience successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously and producing quality deliverables on time and within budget
  • Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Strong client service orientation and ability to respond to all communications effectively and in a timely manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Self-starter attitude and ability to work with ambiguity in a fast paced environment
  • Strong analytical, creative and integrative skills; Interest and ability to think beyond the task at hand and understand how one’s work fits into the broader landscape
  • Desire to mentor/develop more junior staff
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Availability to travel on an as needed basis
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Pursuit of CEBS designation, or health and welfare actuarial / underwriting training desired
