APS is recruiting for an Actuarial Specialist.

Reporting to the Director Actuarial Services, the Actuarial Specialist plays a vital role on cross-functional teams involved in analyzing and ensuring all aspects of the accuracy of actuarial calculations and compliance with Canadian Institute of Actuary’s standards including, data extracts and reporting; system specifications, change control, testing implementing plan design changes as requested by the Plan Corporations, and communication of technical information (including tax interpretations).

Additionally, the incumbent will be in contact with plan actuaries when dealing with data extracts, reconciliation for valuation of plan liabilities, formula updates and periodic certification of calculations and web-based estimators. The Actuarial Specialist will assist with the development of policy advice and recommendations to both the Corporation’s staff as well as the pension plans.

This role will provide support across all business units regarding actuarial issues including, systems implementation and testing and fulfilling operational calculation requirements necessary due to system scope limitation or system defects. The Actuarial Specialist will proactively ensure a wide-spread understanding of actuarial principles through providing information sessions.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • University degree with an actuarial background and five to nine years of directly related experience; or
  • Business diploma with 10 or more years of directly related experience.

Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of highly technical areas of pension plans, concerning taxation, legislation, administration and actuarial practices.
  • Complete understanding of complex pension plans.
  • Advanced communication capabilities in both technical and non-technical language.
  • Experience working with pension actuaries.
  • Knowledge of actuarial concepts.
