Calgary District Pipe Trades Pension Plan is a province-wide, multi-employer plan run by a Board of Trustees. The Board is looking for a qualified Pension Administrator, who will be trained and supervised by their Third Party Administrator, The PBAS Group. 
The successful candidate will preferably have a minimum of 2 to 3 years related experience. Candidates must have or are working towards Retirement Plans Associate (RPA), Group Benefits Associate (GBA) or, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS).  

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Pension Administrator with our CDPT Pension and Benefit Team, your role will be responsible for the following: 

•    Calculate, peer review and authorize benefit entitlements on retirement and termination 
•    Update interest calculations for transfer to RRSP and LIRA 
•    Communicate with plan members and plan beneficiaries regarding termination and retirement pension options
•    Communicate with other union locals regarding contributions and reciprocal agreements
•    Prepare monthly contribution report
•    Prepare monthly pension payments for retirees 
•    Understand the plan text and have broad knowledge about Alberta Pension Legislation 
•    Prepare T4As for retired plan members and plan beneficiaries 
•    Prepare annual pension statements 
•    Maintain year-end update of plan records, including the reconciliation of the membership and fund reconciliations 
•    Prepare the data for actuarial valuation   
•    Maintain plan member and plan beneficiary records 
•    Prepare  terminations, retirement packages, including tax forms, direct deposit and declaration of marital status forms 


Other Qualifications and Experience

•    A demonstrated mathematical aptitude 
•    Knowledge of related provincial and federal pension legislation and Income Tax Act provisions is an asset 
•    Basic accounting skills to reconcile pension fund receipts and disbursements 
•    Ability to verify in-house administration system output 
•    Ability to work collaboratively as a key member of a team and independently with minimum supervision 
•    Client service focused 
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) 
•    Detail oriented and strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize several projects with competing deadlines 
•    Proficient in MS Excel and Word 

This is a union position in the COPE collective bargaining unit.  Pay and benefits are determined by the Collective Agreement.
