Come and be a part of the City of Edmonton's Employee Service Centre (ESC) dynamic team!  As a Pension Representative, you'll be responsible for efficient pension functions that support over 14,000 city employees throughout 8 different departments. Working with a team of professionals, you will provide efficient solutions and services to the entire organization in a manner that focuses on accuracy, timeliness and exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment, your day could include the following:

You will function in a small unit assigned the following responsibilities:

  • Audit internal processes such as: ensuring City employees are registered in Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), Special Forces Pension Plan (SFPP), Firefighters Supplementary Pension Plan (FFSPP); verifying service credits; processing pension adjustments for tax purposes
  • Process various pension documents/forms for retirement, prior service, leaves, transfer and termination purposes
  • Administration of various accounts relating to buy-back of prior service, leaves of absences, auditing salary data, and administration of Matrimonial Property Orders
  • Reconcile pension payroll with LAPP, Special Forces Pension Plan (SFPP) and other pension plans; auditing Long Term Disability (LTD) member files' pension data, reconciling data for Member Annual Statements in conjunction with actuaries and City accountants
  • Process monthly pensioner payroll for Firefighters Supplementary Pension, Fire Chiefs and Deputy Fire Chiefs; and manage annual affirmation process
  • Audit service and salary data for APA/Actuaries/CRA to ensure compliance with regulations pertinent to pensions administration
  • Interact with City employees with regard to retirement and termination options, processing of deaths in service, insurance claims, and other queries
  • Assist retiring members through the retirement process and responding to other enquiries, in person, by phone or email
  • Assist in the training and development of staff in regards to policies and procedures
  • Ensure all functions and procedures are adequately documented and maintained in accordance with tax rules, pensions legislation and City policies on a regular basis
  • Perform other related duties as required
Exigences:

  • Grade 12 supplemented by courses in business/commerce related subjects
  • Pension Plans Administration Certificate (PPAC) or Certified Pension Administration Certificate  RPA - CEBS5 years diversified experience in pension administration in a large, complex organization
  • Knowledge of the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), Special Forces Pension Plan (SFPP)   and Firefighters Supplementary Pension Plan (FFSPP) and the administration of these plans the  supplementary pension plan(s) would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel; experience using Google Docs/Sheets and or Google Gmail is an asset
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Or Success Factors payroll system is a significant asset
  • Ability to plan and coordinate
  • Knowledge of the purpose, organization, policies and regulations governing pension administration
  • Proven ability to administer complex salary and service records for pension benefits purposes
  • Ability to make decisions within defined procedures, rules and regulations
  • Ability to work in a high volume, complex and demanding environment with a strong focus on excellence in customer service
  • Ability to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately
  • Excellent analytical and proactive problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary

Up to 1 permanent, full-time position

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $30.482 - $38.287 (Hourly); $63,646.420 - $79,943.260 (Annually)
