Based in downtown Edmonton, the Consultant, Group Benefits builds and maintains relationships with new and existing clients and provides integral technical support. This position provides information and guidance on all aspects of group benefits plan design, implementation and ongoing support.
Responsibilities:
- Be an active participant in strategic planning of the group benefits division.
- Meet with current and prospective clients to obtain employee benefit data, plan design, employee census data, cost-sharing arrangements, premium/rate structure, historical premiums, claims, and experience data.
- Review and analyze plan designs; provide comments, recommendations, and advice.
- Design customized employee benefit plans for organizations while being cognizant of budget restraints.
- Compile and summarize information for submission to the underwriting team.
- Present employee benefit proposals to First Canadian and prospective clients; solicit their business.
- Transition new clients from existing carriers to First Canadian.
- Draft employee communications and coordinate with clients.
- Coordinate employee enrollment with client human resources staff.
- Answer general employee benefit queries from First Canadian clients.
- Assist clients and First Canadian with employee claims or claims management issues.
- Build and establish relationships with the First Canadian team and with external partners.
- Perform annual renewal analysis and negotiations; prepare client reports and presentations
- Complete experience reporting, budget projections, and reviewing plan financial performance
- Review financial reports for accuracy and adherence to underwriting agreements
- Gather data and determine cost impact of plan design changes
- Accountable for the development of ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting
- Other duties as required.
Exigences:
- 2-5 years of group benefits experience with in-depth knowledge of products, financial mechanisms as well as applicable legislation across Canada.
- Life and Accident and Sickness license in Alberta is required.
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration or equivalent experience is considered an asset.
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation or Group Benefits Associate (GBA) is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in MS Office products with intermediate to advanced Excel skills is required.
- Fluent in English skills in verbal and written communication is required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Clean driving record and valid class 5 license.
- Ability to travel out of town and some overnight travel.
- Successful completion of credit, criminal, and education background checks and employer reference and verification before employment is required.
