Sean is a senior lawyer at BMKP Law practicing in the areas of pension, benefits and executive compensation law.

In his practice, Sean advises on pension fund investments, plan terminations, ongoing plan administration and compliance issues, disputes over the use of plan assets, development and documentation of pension and employee benefit plans, issues arising from corporate transactions and commercial insolvencies, and adhering to fiduciary duties.

Sean also has experience advising on the establishment and implementation of incentive compensation arrangements, including, phantom stock, stock option, deferred share unit plans, share appreciation rights, employees profit-sharing plans and supplementary retirement plans.

Prior to joining BMKP Law, Sean practiced in the pension group at a pre-eminent Canadian law firm.

 
 

  

Barbara Walancik-Hatch

Dentons Canada

Barbara Walancik-Hatch) is counsel in the Employment and Labour group in Dentons’ Toronto office, practicing in pension and employee benefits law. She has assisted private and public sector plan sponsors and administrators with a wide range of matters, including plan design, amendments, administration, governance, regulatory compliance, surplus distribution, de-risking, restructuring, wind-ups and information security.

Barbara has also advised on pensions, retirement and savings plans, and employee benefit matters in corporate transactions, including asset and share transactions, restructurings and reorganizations.

Barbara has presented to clients and peers on a broad spectrum of topics, from fiduciary duties, privacy and information security, to estate planning, legislative and regulatory updates. In addition, she has experience in litigation involving the intersection of constitutional rights with labour and pension law. She has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice, various appellate levels and the Financial Services Tribunal.

Jessica Kim

Jessica is an associate practicing exclusively in the Pension and Employee Benefits Group of Lawson Lundell. She works with the group to advise single employer and multi-employer pension plans across Canada in respect of various aspects of pensions and employee benefits matters including drafting and amending plan texts, trust agreements and policies, providing advice regarding the day-to-day administration of plans and liaising with regulatory bodies on behalf of clients. Jessica started with Lawson Lundell as a summer student in 2020 and joined the firm as an associate following the completion of her articles in 2022. Prior to joining the firm, Jessica received her J.D. from the University of Toronto.
