Session: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility 101
2:00pm – 3:00pm

All organizations need a culture that welcomes, and respects varied thoughts, backgrounds, and experiences, allowing everyone to feel safe, valued, and have a sense of belonging. The next step in our inclusion and diversity journey focuses on building and maintaining an inclusive culture – the key piece of the IDEA puzzle!

If you are new on the IDEA journey or would just like a great overview of the area this is a good place to begin! Addressing IDEA in the workplace is not just a “nice to have” anymore but it is a must – for many reasons, some of which you will be surprised by, including the fact that doing so has a proven positive impact on organizations bottom line.

This intro to IDEA workshop will provide an overview of the main concepts of IDEA in the workplace and the benefits of addressing it.

We will:

  • Why it matters, the business case benefits to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility
  • What is Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility
  • Look at the different dimensions of diversity and how these layers are at play in all our lives.
  • How to commit to action.

As this session has limited seating we are asking for a deposit of $20 to attend the session. This can be used as a credit towards our follow up in-person session on September 21, 2023.

Inez Ashworth (she/her/hers) is a cultural innovator, a powerful influencer, a dynamic leader and a trusted advocate. In grade school Inez was often the one standing up to the bully, the one making friends with the new kid, the one who had a different hairstyle and occasionally wore orange and red together. She still does.

Not much has changed. She still has her own unique style, and her life and career has been dedicated to working for equality and social justice, bringing people together and creating inclusive environments where everyone feels able to be their own unique self. For Inez, empowering people to be their authentic selves is what true leadership is about and it’s also how organizations can keep employees inspired and engaged.

Much of her energy and inspiration comes from community work, volunteering, and mentoring. Giving back to the community is how she recharges. Today, she sits on the Calgary Police Department’s Anti-Racism Action Committee and volunteers to create meaningful dialogue by facilitating sessions for Next Gen Men. She is an advocate for the next generation and is part of several Inclusion, Diversity, and Belonging councils and committees, and partners with post-secondary institutions to mentor minority students at risk of dropping out of school.

She counts herself lucky to be one of the people following their dreams. She truly believes this work is what she was always meant to do and loves seeing the positive impact it has on others. Inez is living a life filled with creativity, energy, and passion, and I bring these elements to every project she takes on. She proudly recognizes and is grateful to live on Treaty 7 territory.
