Solutions for Mental Health in the Workplace - From EAPs to Psychiatric IMEs
Guest Speakers:
Nancy Sherman, Rehab Solutions
P. Scott Theriault, MD, FRCPC,
Clinical Director, Dept. of Psychiatry, Capital District Health Authority
Associate Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry, Dalhousie University
The awareness and impact of mental health issues in the workplace continues to grow. Mental health can pose challenges from communicating with the employee who may be struggling with mental health to absenteeism and workers’ compensation claims. While much of the conversation is appropriately focused on recognition and dialogue, what are some solutions to these challenges? Our speakers will discuss practical approaches through the use of “real life” examples from the initial meetings and referrals to EAPs to assessment through a psychiatric IME.
Nancy Sherman is a consultant with Rehab Solutions, who helps employers address mental health challenges in the work place. Dr. Theriault is a psychiatrist and Clinical Director at the East Coast Forensic Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry at the Capital District Health Authority. He works in the forensic field and has presented on a number of mental health topics, including psychiatric IMEs.
