Company wellness programs have become common place in many workplaces. How should wellness be defined and what can a wellness program include to be successful? What should plan sponsors consider before implementing or changing a wellness program?  Join us for this interactive discussion where our speakers will provide the legal, plan sponsor, wellness company and insurance company perspectives and insights on the topic, including best practices and risk management.

Mary Duncan, CHRL
Chief Human Resources Officer, CAA Club Group

Mary joined CAA Club Group in 2004 and has been the Chief Human Resources Officer since July 2016.  In her role she is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Human Resources including Talent Management, Learning and Development, Total Rewards, Corporate Communications, and Facilities and Corporate Services.

Prior to joining CAA Club Group, Mary spent the majority of her career in the financial services industry based in Toronto. She enjoyed a progressive career with the Canada Life Assurance Company; her final role was Human Resources Assistant Vice President, Total Rewards, Executive Compensation, and HRIS.

Mary is an Alumna of the Advanced Program in Human Resources Management from the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, where she earned her CHRL.

Mary has served on several not-for-profit Boards and was previously on the Board of the MacKenzie Health Hospital. In her community, Mary is an active member of the Canadian Cancer Society and supports other charitable organizations in the GTA. In her spare time she enjoys reading and visiting cottage-country. She currently resides in Vaughan with her husband and two daughters.

 

Paula Pettit,
Associate, Miller Thomson


Paula Pettit’s practice focuses on Labour and Employment Law. She brings over 15 years’ of experience in labour relations to her practice, providing pragmatic advice with a view to achieving optimal results in a cost-effective manner. While Paula has advocated on behalf of management in a variety of settings and industries, she started her career in labour relations in film and television. In addition to the entertainment industry, she has acted for public and private sector employers, advising clients on their rights regarding labour relations, employment standards, human rights, privacy, occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation, pension benefits and pay equity.

Paula has extensive experience working closely with human resources leaders, advising on executive compensation, compliance and progressive HR practices, and also conducting workplace investigations. Over the past several years, Paula has facilitated labour and management relations courses and seminars, as well as contributed to related publications.

 

Laura Pratt, B.A., C.I.M., H.I.A.A., I.C.A.,

National Practice Leader, Organizational Health, Great-West Life


Laura has worked in the Insurance Industry for over 25 years, beginning her career with London Life, now Great-West Life. The majority of that time has been spent specializing in disability management and organizational health.

Laura began her involvement in this field by working as a Case Manager. She then spent several years supervising a team of over 20 Case Managers who managed claims for large national clients.

For the last 17 years, Laura has focused on identifying and addressing the disability and wellness needs of some of Great-West Life's largest clients. This has included developing a team of 8 Organizational Health Consultants across Canada.

Laura has a degree in English from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has a Certificate in Human Resources from Fanshawe College, and completed the Canadian Institute of Management (CIM) designation through studies at the University of Western Ontario (Western University). She has also attained industry designations from the Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA) and the International Claims Association (ICA).
