Session description

In 2018 the Ontario government introduced significant reforms to funding rules for the majority of Ontario-registered pension plans. FSCO, the Ontario pension regulator, recently released a FAQ document which outlines their interpretation of several aspect of the new regulations.
As the largest manager of Defined Benefit pension assets in Canada, TD Asset Management (TDAM) has had a number of clients impacted by these new funding rules. The speakers from TDAM will share their observations on the impact of the new rules in Ontario and FSCO's FAQ from an investment perspective, and discuss what may change in the future

Rachna de Koning, FCIA, FSA

Rachna joined TD Asset Management Inc. (TDAM) in September 2010. Her primary responsibility is for the quality of the overall client service relationship. She maintains ongoing dialogue with clients to ensure that TDAM fully understands their current and evolving needs and takes a proactive approach to provide investment solutions and operational excellence. She brings significant experience in Asset Liability Management and Liability Driven Investing. In addition, her responsibilities include business development and overseeing parts of Institutional Distribution at TDAM. Prior to joining TDAM, Rachna worked at a global consulting firm as a lead pension and investment consulting actuary. In this role, she assisted organizations with all aspects of the financial and risk management of their defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans. Rachna has an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo. She is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries, having completed her actuarial designation in the investment specialty track.

 

Neil Lamb, FCIA, FSA

Neil joined TD Asset Management Inc. (TDAM) in July 2014. Neil Lamb is a pension actuary by training and his primary responsibility is for the quality of our overall client service relationships. He maintains ongoing dialogue with our clients to help ensure that we fully understand their current and evolving needs, and that we take a proactive approach to providing investment solutions and operational excellence. In addition, Neil plays the role of Liability Driven Investment (LDI) Actuarial Issue Leader at TDAM. In this role, Neil acts as an internal expert on actuarial and pension legislation matters and works with our LDI team to design cost and risk mitigation strategies for a broad range of pension plans. Prior to joining TDAM, Neil worked at a global HR consulting firm as a retirement consultant. Neil has an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics double degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics from the University of Waterloo. He is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries.
