About Us

Join the Plannera Team: A Career with Purpose. A Future with Possibilities.

Join our team of passionate pension and benefits professionals dedicated to helping members build a secure financial future! Plannera Pensions & Benefits (Plannera), formerly known as the Public Employees’ Benefits Agency, is on the lookout for talented individuals to become part of our dynamic team of over 150 employees. Headquartered in Regina, Saskatchewan, Plannera oversees over $16 billion in assets across 11 pension plans and 16 benefits programs in the province. As a not-for-profit corporation, we take pride in administering two of Canada's top 100 pension plans—the Public Employees Pension Plan (PEPP), the country’s largest defined contribution plan, and the Municipal Employees' Pension Plan (MEPP). We serve over 900 employers and more than 105,000 plan members, everyone from small-town firefighters to crown corporation executives.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Investment Operations, this position is responsible to oversee the technical side of Plannera’s daily valuation process, as well as to be a senior lead to the team in terms of specialized support and subject matter expertise. We are looking for a results-oriented leader with extensive experience and an in-depth understanding of financial markets and fund accounting including NAV calculations, corporate actions, settlements, foreign exchange transactions, fund of funds, derivatives, and reconciliations.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing an escalation point in the calculation of the daily unitized valuations for the Public Employees Pension Plan (PEPP), Canada’s largest defined contribution pension plan, and monthly valuations for several additional plans, requiring an in-depth investment knowledge regarding trades, income, expenses, accruals, and pricing.
  • Implementing and validating changes to fund procedures, identifying high risk processes, suggesting controls to be implemented to mitigate risks identified and ensuring that documentation is updated to reach operational objectives.
  • Reviewing work completed by others, providing guidance to other members of the team and be an escalation point for issues that arise.
  • Serving as a role model and mentor for junior team members by openly sharing knowledge, and inspiring others to be engaged in the various tasks and projects.
  • Overseeing change management due to pension plan changes, new data streams and formats, software updates, enhancements, maintenance, and transitions to new platforms.
  • Research and development of valuation policies and processes that support industry best practices and design, test and implement solutions reliant on external service providers and systems.

Ideal Candidate

You will be:

  • One who continually demonstrates integrity, initiative, accountability, and professionalism.
  • An exceptional communicator on all levels - verbal, written and listening skills are required to comprehend and communicate complex and specialized information and ideas.
  • Detailed-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • A self-starter with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Technologically inclined and proficient in Excel with knowledge of VBA macros.
  • Able to work outside of normal hours of business, as required, due to the dependency on financial markets and market events as well as tight deadlines around valuations.

Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through a combination of:

  • 5 or more years of relevant valuation experience and bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or similar discipline.

Please briefly indicate in your cover letter the reasons you are interested in, and qualified for, this position.
