CPBI Pension Summit - Ontario Retirement Pension Plan Plan to join us: Toronto - March 4, 2015
In 1960, the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute (CPBI) was established as the Canadian Pension Conference. The 1960s proved to be a very exciting time for the development of government pension programs such as the Canada Pension Plan and provincial pension minimum standards legislation. The purpose of CPBI, then as it is now, was to discuss questions relating to all forms of income security for old age and other allied programs and to advance and exchange ideas and information in this field.
A revitalized CPBI Ontario is building upon this tradition of hosting highly-valued informative networking and educational seminars for the benefit of our members and industry stakeholders, through a series of CPBI Ontario Signature Events. The 2015 Pension Summit, “Discussions Today to Prepare for Tomorrow” will discuss the government’s proposed Ontario Retirement Pension Plan. We are very pleased that the Honourable Associate Minister of Finance Mitzie Hunter, responsible for the ORPP, will speak at the event, to be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Randy Bauslaugh of McCarthy Tetrault.
CPBI was at the forefront of the discussion when Canada Pension Plan was introduced and we are leading the discussion regarding the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan. The 2015 Pension Summit offers excellent speakers from a variety of backgrounds, providing the prospective of the stakeholders who will be impacted by the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan, including a plan sponsor, a service provider who can share the experience of Quebec's introduction of the VRSP, and pension and actuarial consultants.
The 2015 Pension Summit will be held on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at the Toronto Board of Trade. Registration opens at 7:30 am and there is an opportunity to network over breakfast until 8:15 am. The session ends at 10:00 am.
These are exciting times in the pension industry in Ontario. We hope you will join us as we discuss this momentous government initiative.

Toronto - February 5, 2015More than 200 guests partied ‘80s-style at the annual charity benefit for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada on Feb. 5, 2015. Held at the Liberty Grand in Toronto, the event included a three-course gala dinner, photo booth, silent auction, Mystery Wall, Wheel of Fortune and raffle with prizes such as a pair of Porter tickets for anywhere the company flies and a signed Leafs jersey. Guests could enjoy complimentary Sex on the Beach cocktails or chill out with a beer at the Cheers bar.
Madonna and Boy George hosted the evening as well as the ever-popular trivia challenge between tables. Great-West Life emerged as the big winner. Two wonderful speakers, Chantel Wicks and Evan Rootenberg, gave a heartfelt perspective on what it’s like to live with Crohn’s disease and why our support matters.
Alyssa Hodder, editor of Benefits Canada, also presented awards to the Top 40 Money Managers in six categories. See all the winners.
All in all, the event raised approximately $25,000 for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. A special thank you goes out to the sponsoring organizations—Great-West Life, Green Shield Canada, Manulife Financial, Morneau Shepell, Franklin Templeton Institutional, Triasima, Benefits Canada and Benefits and Pensions Monitor—for their support.
Congratulations, and thanks to everyone who attended. It was a totally rad time! | IN REVIEWCPBI Investment Trends Toronto - January 20, 2015
