CPBI Saskatchewan has another exciting year of events lined up for this 2018 - 2019 season. Our team of volunteers from the industry have created a fantastic year of educational events.

If you are not a member, then we hope you will consider becoming one so you may enjoy these thought provoking speakers and networking opportunities at a reduced price.

Highlights from our Member Appreciation Social  

This year's Member Appreciation social event was held on September 12, 2018, at The Willow on Wascana in Regina. Although it was a bit cool, we were able to socialize both outside on the deck as well as inside the quaint and cozy restaurant!

Art Babcock, Senior Vice President at Aon, will explore the Sanofi Canada Healthcare Survey, which has proven to be a valuable tool for health benefit administrators making decisions about the kind of health coverage their plans will provide.

Since 1998, this healthcare survey has monitored the pulse of Canadians with employer-sponsored health benefit plans. It continues to track respondents’ overall satisfaction with the healthcare system as a whole and their own benefit plan, their concerns about their health and the health of their families, and their understanding of certain chronic illnesses.

Over the years, the survey has looked at the issues of workplace stress, the growing need for homecare services and disease prevention. It offers the benefits industry an important benchmark to evaluate emerging healthcare issues that impact employee health and productivity.

Getting the attention of Defined Contribution (DC) pension plan members has always been the biggest challenge facing plan sponsors. Cheryl Shea, Senior Investment Consultant at Mercer (Canada) Limited, will discuss how plan sponsors and record keepers are using digital media to engage plan members and make it easier for them to take an active role in managing their accounts.

Real assets have become an integral part of the pension investment landscape in Canada. Indeed, Canadian pension plans are widely recognized as leaders in infrastructure and real estate investing by their global peers.

In addition to understanding the underlying risk/return characteristics of infrastructure and real estate investments, combining research, portfolio management and implementation expertise remain key in contributing to investment success.

Darren Spencer, Client Portfolio Manager, Alternative Investment Management at Russell Investments, will explore key trends impacting real asset investing today including:

Morneau Shepell’s annual Trends in Human Resources survey canvasses Canadian employers on what they are planning for the coming year, and asks HR Leaders about the opportunities and challenges they face. Caylee Stewart, Senior Customer Success Manager from Morneau Shepell, will share the 2018 survey results which covers the following areas:

• HR priorities for 2018;

• Expected changes in compensation;

• Improving health, engagement and productivity;

• Reducing the cost of absence and disability;

• Optimizing retirement plans.

The presentation will have a targeted focus on mental health in the workplace.
