Job Title: HR Advisor (Retirement and Pension) – Full Time – Level 17
Location: Ottawa - Hybrid
Team & Job Overview: Our Employee Care Centre is currently seeking a reliable team player with a client service focus to provide Retirement and Pension support to EDC employees and retirees. The successful candidate will be highly organized, able to multi-task, and work independently. The Retirement and Pension Advisor role involves handling employee and retiree enquiries, performing routine HR operational tasks, and problem-solving. Strong people skills and great attention to detail are essential for this position. The Retirement and Pension Advisor works in close collaboration with the Pension Programs team.
EDC’s pension plans include both a Registered Pension Plan (RPP) and a Supplementary Retirement Plan (SRP), each with defined contribution (DC) and legacy defined benefit (DB) components. Plan membership is close to 4,000 (1,900 active employees, 500 retirees and surviving spouses, and 300 deferred). The DB component of the plan was closed to new members in 2012.
EDC’s savings plans include a Group Registered Savings Plan (GRSP), a Group Registered Education Savings Plan (GRESP) and Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and comprehensive responses to retirement inquiries (retirement planning meetings and processing) and support employees through the retirement process.
- Respond to general pension inquiries, including buybacks, beneficiaries, employer matching contributions, etc.
- Assist employees with retirement paperwork and ensure a smooth transition process.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of retirement and pension data, and recommend solutions to employees, leaders, and HR colleagues.
- Assist in creating procedures and oversee their implementation.
- Identify and evaluate specific problems related to retirement and pension plans to determine the most effective solutions.
- Manage partnerships with internal clients, build effective relationships, and provide high-quality services to support business strategies.
- Collaborate with external providers to manage pension administration.
- Analyze retirement and pension data, identify trends, and develop insights to improve employee engagement and business performance.
- Calculate pension contributions for legislated leave and long-term disability cases.
- Prepare the bi-weekly pension contribution package and obtain necessary signatures.
- Assist in pension audits.
- Support the preparation and delivery of presentations or workshops on retirement and pension topics.
Requirements:
Screening Criteria:
Education and Experience:
- Completed an undergraduate degree in Business Administration or Human Resources.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in human resources, with a focus on retirement and pension plans administration.
- In-depth knowledge of retirement and pension regulations and best practices (both DB and DC plans).
- Excellent understanding of GRSP and TFSA programs.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Bilingual in English & French.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of how pension programs fit into an employer’s total compensation.
- Working knowledge of human resources management principles and practices.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work independently.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Experience and Abilities:
- Experience evaluating current operations within the retirement and pension function and introducing innovative processes to ensure ongoing improvements.
- Ability to present information in a confident and clear manner, demonstrating strong subject matter expertise.
- An ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels, including external partners and senior management.
- A proven record in developing and maintaining positive relationships with various internal and external partners and stakeholders.

Assets:
- CHRP/CHRL designation in progress.
- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation.
- Retirement Plans Associate designation.
- Pension certification or training
- Experience with or knowledge of investments, preferably in the context of registered pension or savings plans.
Compensation Details
- HR Generalist 17: Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $ 83,037 - $110,717, plus a performance-based incentive
