Depression, Anxiety and Addictions in The Workplace (9:00 am - 10:00 am) |
Mental health in the workplace is an important factor in our fast-paced world of today. This one-hour presentation will provide an overview of depression, anxiety and addictions. Emphasis will be placed on how to recognize the signs of these conditions in oneself and others and how they impact a person's overall adjustment. The presentation will also offer a summary of prevention strategies and treatment options. |
Speaker: Dr. Sam Mikail, Senior Consultant, Sun Life

Dr. Mikail is a board certified clinical psychologist and Senior Consultant, Mental Health with Sun Life Financial. In this role Dr. Mikail provides consultation, mentoring, coaching and staff development within the Group Benefits division of Sun Life Financial. Over the course of his 30 year career Dr. Mikail has been an active clinician, researcher, consultant and educator of health professionals. His clinical work and research have spanned the fields of mental health, health psychology, rehabilitation, and spirituality. Dr. Mikail has served on the boards of several professional associations and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Psychological Association where he serves as Practice Leader and Chair of Professional Affairs. He continues to maintain a part-time private practice in Newmarket, Ontario. |

This session will cover an overview of the current global economy. Highlights will include:
1. Global Economy in Transition 2016-17.
2. Perspective on Monetary, Fiscal and Structural Policies in the G-7 countries.
3. Insights on the U.S. economy - the new president’s agenda.
4. Cross – currents affecting the Canadian economy and the new Liberal Commitment.
5. Implications for currencies (dollar, yen and euro), interest rates and inflation.
6. Future horizons and challenges. |
Speaker: Surinder K. Suri, President and Chief Economist, Global Economic Management & Associates

Surinder Suri is President and Chief Economist at Global Economic Management & Associates, a firm specializing in global economic policy and investment issues. GEM has been serving its wealth management research clients for over 17 years. Since 1979 Mr. Suri has served as an adviser to major corporations and industry associations across the world. He was a Lecturer on International Business, Strategy and Economics for undergraduate and MBA programs at the University of Toronto and the Rotman School of Management. He was Director and Chief Economist of London Insurance Group and London Life, Economic Advisor at Moss Lawson and Company (HSBC Securities) investment dealers, Banking Studies Officer with the Canadian Bankers Association, Chief Economist, The Conference Board of Canada, Assistant Editor at the Eastern Economist (New Delhi and Brussels) and Consulting Economist with H.P. Drewry Ltd. (shipping consultants), London, U.K. After obtaining an Engineering Diploma, Calcutta University, Mr. Suri graduated with Economics honours from the University of Delhi and the Delhi School of Economics, New Delhi. Mr. Suri has been on several trade missions, including the Team Canada missions. He has participated at the IMF, World Bank conferences for over 30 years. He has participated in senior business government and academic conferences in 95 countries. Mr. Suri is on the Foundation Board at Fanshawe College and is on the Board at St. Joseph's Hospital. He is on the Board of the Toronto Association for Business Economists and an economic adviser to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
