The Pension Commission of Manitoba has reveiwed the Province's pension laws in an initiative to update and strengthen the existing pension system. As a follow up initiative, the Province opened a public consultation to discuss changes to the Pension Benefit Act notably as it relates to the introduction of target benefit plans and a new funding regime, completely revisiting the requirement to fund on a solvency basis.

Wes Peters, CFA

Wes Peters is a veteran of the pension industry having spent most of his career in various roles revolving around pension and pension investments. Wes is currently the Vice President Investments at Wawanesa Insurance. He also currently sits on the Board of the Calgary Foundation and as member of the investment committee for the Alberta Public Service Pension Plan. Wes is well known in the pension community in Western Canada, and interestingly, was the Superintendent of Pensions in Manitoba in the 1980's.
He earned a BSc degree from the University of Manitoba and holds the CFA Charterholder designation.
Kerry Poole BSc, CEB, PMP
CEO, HEB Manitoba
Kerry Poole is the CEO of HEB Manitoba, a unique organization that provides administration of both pension and healthcare benefits for the healthcare employees in Manitoba. He joined the organization in 2010 and moved into the CEO role in 2012. Kerry's multi-faceted career has spanned both the private and public sectors in capacities ranging from consulting to management and executive level services. Since joining HEB Manitoba, he has applied his unique skillset to lead the transformation of HEB Manitoba to a progressive and responsive provider fo service to its stakeholders and members.
He earned a BSc degree from the University of Manitoba and holds both PMP and CEB designations.
Tim McGorman, FSA, FCIA, CFA
Principal, Ellement, Vice Chair, Manitoba Pension Commission
Tim has 30 years of experience as a conslutant and actuary and is responsible for actuarial and investment consulting in all types of pension and other retirement programs. Tim was appointed to the Manitoba Pension Commission in 2010 and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Pension Commission. Tim is an active member in the pension and actuarial community. He is Chair of the Prairie Regional Council of ACPM and is a member of the Designated Group of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries that is reviewing the Standards of Practice for Communted Value calculations.
He earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and has also obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
