A staggering fact is that one in three workplace disability claims are related to mental health problems. And it’s not likely coincidence that while 44% of employees say that they have experienced a mental health problem, only 23% would talk with their boss about it. In January 2013, the Mental Health Commission of Canada released their recommendations “Psychological health and safety in the workplace – Prevention, promotion and guidance in staged implementation”. While these recommendations are currently voluntary, it is becoming increasingly evident that employers have a legal responsibility to attend to the mental health of employees. From all angles, it makes sense to address mental health in the workplace. Come hear Dianne Drummond talk about this new language and add to your understanding of what you can do.
