Session description
This session will provide an overview of defined contribution pension plans, including typical plan designs, governing income tax and pension legislative measures, types of contributions, investment choices, termination and retirement options, pension governance issues, as well as common risks defined contribution pension plans face. By attending this session, participants will gain a basic understanding of the defined contribution pension offered by an employer, the key components and terminology used in plan documents, the regulatory environment of defined contribution pension plans. This session will provide particularly useful information for those interested in gaining general knowledge of defined contribution pension plans. | Stephen Cheng,FCIA, FSA Senior Consulting Actuary Westcoast Actuaries Inc. Stephen is a Senior Consulting Actuary and the Managing Director of Westcoast Actuaries Inc. in Vancouver. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics and Statistics and a M.B.A. degree, both from the University of British Columbia. He is a Fellow of both the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries with over 30 years of pension and actuarial consulting experience. Stephen is a recognized expert of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. He has given presentations on various pension topics to many professional organizations, including the Department of Finance. He is a frequent contributor to books and journals on pension and actuarial matters. Stephen provides consultation to clients on pension plan design, implementation and administration, actuarial valuations of pension plans for funding and accounting purposes. He supports clients with ongoing pension issues to ensure their pension plans are compliant with income tax legislation as well as pension legislation. Stephen has served on many examination committees of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries and he is currently a member of the Actuarial Standards Board. |
