Since the 2009 Great Financial Crisis, global fixed income markets have gone through a series of wide ranging secular changes. Starting with increased financial regulation, followed by primary market players exiting the lending business, and now with persistently low yields, the fixed income market is dramatically different today. These changes present opportunities previously not available to Canadian pension plans and foundations. In this session, Jeffrey King and Erwan Pirou of Aon will walk through the fixed income investment opportunities now available to Canadian institutional investors. As the CIO of Aon’s OCIO team in Canada, Erwan will also discuss how Aon is accessing these opportunities for OCIO clients globally.

The session is sure to be of interest to DB, DC and Foundation investors who are interested in enhancing returns and adding diversification to their fixed income portfolios.

Erwan Pirou

Erwan Pirou is Associate Partner of Aon and Canadian Chief Investment Officer of Aon Hewitt Investment Management Inc.  Erwan joined the company in 2007.

Erwan leads the investment strategy and execution for the Canadian Portfolio Management team. He has responsibility for strategy development, implementation, and risk management across all delegated investment clients.

Erwan previously led the Canadian fixed-income research team at Aon and was a co-lead of the fixed income team globally. He specialized in investment manager research, with a focus on fixed income and liability-driven investments. Before joining Aon in 2007, Erwan was a credit analyst at Barclays in London, assigned to the telecommunications and utility sectors, and served as a fixed-income security portfolio co-manager. He was previously a quantitative analyst at Barclays Private Bank.

Erwan has a master’s degree in corporate finance from Université de Rennes (France). He holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has 20 years of experience in the field of finance.
