London Chapter Chef's Club
On November 6th, 45 pension, investment and benefits professionals gathered at Aroma's Restaurant in London creating a 4-course gourment meal led by Aroma's Chef. Once prepared, their meal was enjoyed with a glass of wine. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their evening of fun and camaraderie with fellow professionals. This annual event is held in the fall of each year - watch for it next year and plan on attending!
Ottawa Chapter Seminar
"Living to 100? Myth or Reality..." was the focus of Ottawa's Chapter Fall Seminar. This half day seminar explored the financial and demographic implications of living longer. Assia Billig from OSFI discussed the trends in Canadian mortality, both past trends and future projections, followed by Robert Teller, Manulife, who gave an overview of the Pooled Retirement Pension Plan landscape. The second half of the morning consisted of a panel discussing the current state of Pension Plans and what the future holds.

London Chapter's 2014 Pension & Benefits Update
This half day seminar offered an indepth look at two important issues facing both Benefits & Pension professionals today. Alex Popovic from Sun Life discussed Benefits fraud and its impact on group plans. Mr. Popovic reviewed common schemes used in benefits fraud and tools being used today to prevent, detect and deter fraudulent abuse. Following this presentation, Christian Janetta and Iain Sneddon from Cohen Highley LLP, outlined the new requirements and their implications for Long Term Disability plans coming from the 2014 Ontario Budget. Also reviewed was the change in legislation permitting the division of provincial pensions when spouses separate.
London Chapter will host its next seminar in the Spring 2015.
CPBI Ottawa Chapter's Charity Golf Tournament
This annual event was once again a huge success. Held on August 20th, the 16th Annual CPBI Charity Golf Tournament was held in support of the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health and Ottawa Salus Corporation. More than 60 people turned out to enjoy a day of golf, dinner, raffles, contests and silent auction. The total donation from the event was over $18,000. This is an annual event held each year in August - plan to attend next year and support two very worthy causes!
Toronto – CPBI Ontario Annual Meeting
On April 30, 2014, the CPBI Ontario Regional Council hosted its Annual Meeting at One King West, in the beautifully restored Melinda Gallery. The Annual Meeting affords a wonderful opportunity to network in a social setting with members of council and other CPBI members. The council consists of 20 volunteers who bring a variety of knowledge and expertise. During the Annual Meeting, Council bids a fond adieu to those who have served on Council and also welcomes new members to fill the vacancies. A warm welcome to all new and returning members, and thank you to all members for your dedication and service. All CPBI members are invited to attend the Annual Meeting - it is planned for the spring of 2015. Plan to attend!
